You can support independent Midlands makers and help a museum at the same time by buying from Birmingham Museums’ new online shop.
Designed to celebrate the best of Brum a new online shop includes a unique range of products created by the very best local independent makers of today alongside gifts inspired by Birmingham’s past.
Many of the items in the shop have been created by brilliant independent makers based in Birmingham including cult brand Punks and Chancers and jewellery made in the city’s world- famous Jewellery Quarter.
Every purchase will help support the work of Birmingham Museums Trust, preserving the world-renowned
collections and historic properties for future generations.
Items include an umbrella inspired by the exquisite ceilings in Aston Hall’s famous long gallery, unique jewellery from nine different Birmingham designers and a new book of recipes – Sarehole Mill Cakes and Bakes – which includes contributions from some of the city’s leading independents such as the Michelin-starred Carters of Moseley, Opus Restaurant and Loaf.
Alex Nicholson-Evans, Commercial Director for Birmingham Museums Trust said: “We love Birmingham, we’re proud to be the keepers of its world-renowned past and collections, and we’ve reflected that passion in our search for diverse, unique, quality items that you’ll want to bring into your home and life.
“Birmingham has been a place of invention for hundreds of years, and by championing local makers and artists, we’re making sure its passion and creativity live on for hundreds more.
“We’re really excited to be launching our new online shop with local makers at the fore and look forward to adding many more products showcasing Birmingham’s creative talent and businesses.”
Other highlights of the online shop include more than 100 customisable art prints with a range of frames and sizes, making it easy to create your own gallery wall, and Art by Post which allows you to send a beautiful card with a personal message to friends and family, from the comfort of your own home.
The shop also features a blog showcasing the workmanship, stories and personalities behind some of Birmingham’s makers plus curators’ picks and a book of the month.
In a move to do more for the environment the online shop will only use sustainably sourced and recyclable packaging with local pick-up also on offer for select items. Post and packing is free for all UK orders over £30.
